We are pleased to be putting the final details in place for our December 2nd Open House, which will coincide with my 30th anniversary of first entering the coin business as a keen-and-green collector, barely out of my teens.
We look forward to welcoming our local friends and customers to our gallery, where we will once again be hosting the traditional harp duo Acacia Lyra. We are very fortunate to be entrusted with an encore viewing of the “Melron Pennies”, one of the finest and rarest collections of Canadian Large Cents. Since the sets last public viewing six years ago, it has been upgraded with an exceptionally rare 1859 Brass striking, currently among the two most valuable Large Cents in existence. Do not miss the opportunity to see this remarkable display of Canadian copper numismatic heritage.
Our Open House will also see the culmination of our current “Final Round-up” Penny Drive, in support of the Almonte General Hospital’s campaign to bring a new CT Scanner to town. Many friends and local customers have been generous in their donations of pennies to the cause over these past few weeks, for which we extend our sincere thanks.
Lastly – to further thank our local collecting community for their support over these past 15 years in Almonte, we will be holding a Flash Sale during our three-hour Open House, and offering a 30% discount on virtually the entire store, with the sole exceptions of Silver/Gold bullion and 2018/19 dated Royal Canadian Mint products.
We look forward to welcoming you in out of the cold for some warm cheer, tasty refreshments, and great deals!
On Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, Canada becomes only the second country in the world to legalize the recreational use of cannabis. With the passing of Bill C-45, or the “Cannabis Act”, 95 years of prohibition comes to an effective end, although debate on this highly-polarizing topic will likely continue far into the future.
In recognition of this historic watershed, Alliance Coin & Banknote is pleased to release our Silver Canabuck.
With an extremely limited mintage of just 150 individually-numbered pieces, our rounds will be available in a traditional red presentation case with numbered certificate (printed on hemp paper!) at an issue price of $49.95.
Reserve orders will be accepted through our Almonte, Ontario showroom.
For full details, please see our website.
Six years after the first release of our renowned Alliance Coin & Banknote Silver Round, we are thrilled to announce the impending unveiling of an historic, and strictly-limited, new commemorative issue.

We’re really delighted to be sponsoring one of the young and crazy teams taking part in this year’s Mongol Rally. This motoring event, which lasts all summer, sees 200+ teams drive ludicrous and ludicrously under powered cars from western Europe to Ulan Ude, Russia (some 25,000km), raising money for charity on the way. All teams raise funds for Cool Earth, as well as charities important to the individual teams.
Team Shenlong is made up of four great guys: Oliver Barber (from Almonte, our local rep on the team!), Markus (German), Grayson and Seth (both Canadian). They’ve identified three additional charities that their fundraising goal will support:
- Streetkids International e.V.
- Taiwan Fund for Children and Families
- British Columbia Schizophrenia Society
They’ve promised to keep an eye out for cool coinage on their route, of course!
If you’re interested to follow along, here are the coordinates for Team Shenlong:
On June 10th, 2018 we held our second live public coin auction, once again from the floor of Almonte’s venerable Old Town Hall.
With 52 registered bidders and an overall sell rate of approximately 90%, this offering of more than 600 diverse lots attracted a good crowd, and by all accounts, an enjoyable time was had by all.
Highlights of our sale included a lovely “Queen Mary” Five Dollar note of 1924, which sold for $6,000 in spirited bidding, while the nod for “most active lot” went to a very scarce 1939 Royal Visit presentation medal to a member of the Queen’s R.C.M.P. escort, which also included an excessively rare embossed luncheon napkin from the visit. With a pre-sale estimate of $150, this historically significant pair of items found a new home at $450.
Our sincere thanks go out to all who participated in our sale, as well as to David Giles for once again serving as our auctioneer, and to Foil Media for their fine work in designing our online auction template and print-catalogue production interface.
We look forward to hosting our third sale in 2019, and will strive to have our printed catalogues available in much better timing.
We have just added another couple of rounds of pictures to the website today, and this is your last chance for a sneak peek before tomorrow’s Live Auction! All 620 lots are available on our website and we’ve received many advance bids (which you can view on the site).
