Coins & Strings Event to be held December 1st

We are delighted to announce plans for our 2019 Annual Open House to be held on Sunday December 1st. This will be the “Freaks & Errors” edition of our Coins & Strings event, and will  feature a fabulous display of exotic and rare coin errors. Many of these coins have never been seen in public, and the display will be an excellent cooperative effort between Alliance Coin and a number of our advanced collecting friends in the field.

First Isaacs Medal for History awarded to ADHS Student

Sean Isaacs with Zachary TuffinThis past June 28, I had the pleasure of presenting the very first Isaacs Medal for History to Zachary Tuffin.

The pure Silver medal, together with a small bursary, will be presented each year to a graduating student of Almonte & District High School who has chosen to pursue post-secondary studies in History or a related field.

Zachary is now attending the Museum Studies program at Ottawa’s Algonquin College, and we wish him success in his chosen field!

Final Almonte Zombie Walk for Hunger this Saturday

A five-year tradition comes to an end this Saturday October 19th, with the final Almonte Zombie Walk for Hunger taking place at 2:00 pm.

Benefiting the Soi Dog Foundation, Country Cat Sanctuary, as well as our local Food Bank, I am delighted to once again serve as grand parade martial for the event.

With live musical entertainment during registration, and many prizes at the end for participants, we invite everyone to join us in making this final 2-kilometer stumble around the downtown core the best Zombie Walk ever! (Honestly, there’s no greater pleasure than freaking out Mill Street diners as they sit engrossed in conversation over their salads and hot-turkey plates!)

Hats off to Heather Gadbois for having made this a fun and material contribution to our local cultural landscape.

Browse and search Alliance Coin & Banknote’s online inventory

I am pleased to report that we are making excellent progress in refreshing our online inventory database at alliancecoin.com.

Please browse through our current offering of more than 300 newly-posted Canadian and World items, all specially-priced for our internet audience. Many will sell at our upcoming show in Hamilton, so visit today for the best selection!

It is somewhat a “catch 22”, in that our inventory experiences heavy adjustments through attendance at our numerous trade-shows, and the key to keeping our listings “fresh” is to take advantage of those pockets of time between shows to post new material. We shall do our very best and invite you to visit often.

2018 Boxing Week Blowout at Alliance!

Our final event of the year will be our near-legendary Boxing Week Sale, which we firmly believe to be the biggest boxing week sale in the Coin Business. In addition to huge discounts on virtually our entire stock, we always pride ourselves on including fresh new inventory.

No items held back or hidden away for the sale. In fact, by the time we open our doors to our loyal customers, we will have added at least 1,000 new coins and notes to stock over the past week or two.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, 27th and Friday, 28th (9am – 7pm) and Saturday, 29th (10am – 6pm) December 2019 at Alliance Coin & Banknote, 88 Mill Street, Almonte.

Reflecting on our Open House

Most recently, we were humbled by our December 2nd “Coins & Strings” Open House, which – in spite of threatening winter weather on a Sunday – saw the largest turn-out we’ve had in 15 years of hosting our popular annual event.

Upwards of 100 customers, friends and colleagues joined us for some great traditional harp music (by Acacia Lyra), and took in our special displays of world-class Large Cents and a selection of Silver cigarette cases from my own personal collection.

Thanks to the support of many, we were also delighted to present the proceeds of our final “Penny Round-Up” in support of the Almonte General Hospital’s MRI equipment fund, with a total of $1,250 raised (or 125,000 Pennies!).

Auction 2018 an enjoyable success!

On June 10th, 2018 we held our second live public coin auction, once again from the floor of Almonte’s venerable Old Town Hall.

With 52 registered bidders and an overall sell rate of approximately 90%, this offering of more than 600 diverse lots attracted a good crowd, and by all accounts, an enjoyable time was had by all.

Highlights of our sale included a lovely “Queen Mary” Five Dollar note of 1924, which sold for $6,000 in spirited bidding, while the nod for “most active lot” went to a very scarce 1939 Royal Visit presentation medal to a member of the Queen’s R.C.M.P. escort, which also included an excessively rare embossed luncheon napkin from the visit. With a pre-sale estimate of $150, this historically significant pair of items found a new home at $450.

Our sincere thanks go out to all who participated in our sale, as well as to David Giles for once again serving as our auctioneer, and to Foil Media for their fine work in designing our online auction template and print-catalogue production interface.

We look forward to hosting our third sale in 2019, and will strive to have our printed catalogues available in much better timing.
