We look forward very much to welcoming our local customers and friends this coming Sunday, December 1st, for some music and good cheer!

I am currently putting the final touches on our “Freaks & Errors” display, which will see the unveiling of at least a couple watershed errors that have remained completely unknown until our open-house.

Auction 2018 an enjoyable success!

On June 10th, 2018 we held our second live public coin auction, once again from the floor of Almonte’s venerable Old Town Hall.

With 52 registered bidders and an overall sell rate of approximately 90%, this offering of more than 600 diverse lots attracted a good crowd, and by all accounts, an enjoyable time was had by all.

Highlights of our sale included a lovely “Queen Mary” Five Dollar note of 1924, which sold for $6,000 in spirited bidding, while the nod for “most active lot” went to a very scarce 1939 Royal Visit presentation medal to a member of the Queen’s R.C.M.P. escort, which also included an excessively rare embossed luncheon napkin from the visit. With a pre-sale estimate of $150, this historically significant pair of items found a new home at $450.

Our sincere thanks go out to all who participated in our sale, as well as to David Giles for once again serving as our auctioneer, and to Foil Media for their fine work in designing our online auction template and print-catalogue production interface.

We look forward to hosting our third sale in 2019, and will strive to have our printed catalogues available in much better timing.

Canada 150 Loon

Join us on Canada Day!

We’re opening our doors on Saturday July 1st, and invite you to pay a visit to Almonte if you’re looking for an alternative to the mass crowds of Parliament Hill.  We’ll open from 10am to 4pm.

Weather permitting, our downtown Mill Street will once again be graced end-to-end with a tremendous variety of vintage automobiles.  Many of our downtown businesses will be open for the day, and Alliance Coin & Banknote will be offering a coin exchange featuring the new “Canada 150” coin designs.

Heather and I will also be unveiling a special display of 1967 Centennial coins, medals and related memorabilia we have been quietly assembling for the past three years. Finally, we will be putting out new inventory as we begin to see the fruits of our ongoing processing binge.

Why not stop by, and see the nice alternative that Almonte has to offer for this most special of Canada Days! Again, from 10-4 please join us at 88 Mill Street.

For the full 2017 Canada Day line-up in Almonte, visit the Town’s Facebook event page.

Celebrating 25 Years in the Coin Business

Alliance Coin & Banknote Open House, 30 November 2013Alliance Coin & Banknote will hold its annual open-house on November 30th, which will also mark my 25th anniversary in the coin business. In keeping with the “Silver” nature of the occasion, we will be presenting “A peek inside the Isaacs cabinet”, an all-Silver historical display of coins, medals and small antiquities from Ancient times to the present, most drawn from my personal collection of the past 30 years, but also supplemented with a few borrowed rarities. I have often been asked what makes me excited as a collector, and this is a rare chance to find out!

Continuing our fine “Coins & Strings” tradition, I am truly delighted to welcome RedOwl to our gallery, a very fine baroque duo out of Montreal whose Harpsichord and Violin union will have us transported back to the sound of the palaces and cathedrals of the 18th century.

For all of our customers who have lamented our bare cabinets of the past couple months, I announce that the drought is over as we will be unveiling substantial new inventory for our open-house. This includes almost a hundred new ICCS certified Canadian coins, more than 200 different “exotics” world coin sets, as well as hundreds of world singles including Ancient & Medieval.

A certain highlight of this new inventory will be an unveiling of the “Westmount 1870 Half”, one of the world’s finest surviving examples of Canada’s first Fifty Cent issue.

Please note we will be closed on the 30th prior to our open-house for preparation, and that doors will open at 3:45 pm. We look forward to the pleasure of your company!
