Just a reminder that our open house takes place tomorrow, Sunday, Dec 1st, 2019. Full details in the poster.
We look forward very much to welcoming our local customers and friends this coming Sunday, December 1st, for some music and good cheer!
I am currently putting the final touches on our “Freaks & Errors” display, which will see the unveiling of at least a couple watershed errors that have remained completely unknown until our open-house.
On June 10th, 2018 we held our second live public coin auction, once again from the floor of Almonte’s venerable Old Town Hall.
With 52 registered bidders and an overall sell rate of approximately 90%, this offering of more than 600 diverse lots attracted a good crowd, and by all accounts, an enjoyable time was had by all.
Highlights of our sale included a lovely “Queen Mary” Five Dollar note of 1924, which sold for $6,000 in spirited bidding, while the nod for “most active lot” went to a very scarce 1939 Royal Visit presentation medal to a member of the Queen’s R.C.M.P. escort, which also included an excessively rare embossed luncheon napkin from the visit. With a pre-sale estimate of $150, this historically significant pair of items found a new home at $450.
Our sincere thanks go out to all who participated in our sale, as well as to David Giles for once again serving as our auctioneer, and to Foil Media for their fine work in designing our online auction template and print-catalogue production interface.
We look forward to hosting our third sale in 2019, and will strive to have our printed catalogues available in much better timing.
Doors open Thursday morning at 10:00 am for our annual Boxing Week Sale! Three days of amazing sales: 28 – 30 December 2017. Thurs & Fri 10am – 7pm, Sat 10am – 5pm.
It’s the biggest event of the year at Alliance Coin & Banknote with discounts on virtually every item in the store. This includes below-cost prices on even the most recent 2017 Royal Canadian Mint products – the only place in the country you’ll find prices like these!
We are delighted to announce that one of the Royal Canadian Mint’s newest commissioned artists, Graham Spaull, will be joining us in store for a meet-and-greet with our customers on September 23rd.
An accomplished Ottawa-area illustrator and graphic designer, Mr. Spaull’s latest creation, “The Monarch Butterfly”, is being featured on the newly-released “Monarch Migration” Fifty Dollar coin. Containing 3 oz of .999 Silver, this 55mm issue is the largest Butterfly coin ever struck.
Please stop in to meet the artist, and to see his original artwork behind this lovely coin.
Saturday September 23rd
11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Alliance Coin & Banknote showroom
88 Mill Street, Almonte, Ontario
With a limited mintage of just 3,500 pieces, we will have only a small number of examples on hand for those interested in purchasing the coin. The official issue price is $299.95 (tax-exempt); please contact us in advance if you would like a coin reserved for you.
We’re opening our doors on Saturday July 1st, and invite you to pay a visit to Almonte if you’re looking for an alternative to the mass crowds of Parliament Hill. We’ll open from 10am to 4pm.
Weather permitting, our downtown Mill Street will once again be graced end-to-end with a tremendous variety of vintage automobiles. Many of our downtown businesses will be open for the day, and Alliance Coin & Banknote will be offering a coin exchange featuring the new “Canada 150” coin designs.
Heather and I will also be unveiling a special display of 1967 Centennial coins, medals and related memorabilia we have been quietly assembling for the past three years. Finally, we will be putting out new inventory as we begin to see the fruits of our ongoing processing binge.
Why not stop by, and see the nice alternative that Almonte has to offer for this most special of Canada Days! Again, from 10-4 please join us at 88 Mill Street.
